Cupcakes for a cause…. a great cause!

I have another great project in the works. It doesn’t require much, just your willingness to help on a fun scavenger hunt. The winning team gets $1,000 for their charity. I have chosen the March of Dimes, Salt Lake Chapter.

My team name is Cupcakes for a Cause. Fitting, isn’t it? Well, I even have a March of Dimes cupcake to go along with this great event. All those who participate will get one after the scavenger hunt is completed. You can’t have a great time without a great cupcake!(There is no limit to team size. In fact, I think the more the merrier.)

Here’s the facts.
– Meet at Liberty Park at 8:30 am, Saturday, August 7th.
– Wear something purple.
– Bring your walking shoes, and a map, cell phone with internet access if you have it, your ability to get around Salt Lake City- mostly between Liberty Park and Pioneer Park.
– Bring water
– Come ready and willing to have a great time- trying to win the $1,000 for the March of Dimes.
– Must be 16 years or older to participate

Here’s the official rules.

What can you do?

I ask what can you do to help? I know that asking a lot from anyone can be hard, but what if you could give a little? You could be the one to make a difference in the life of a new baby. Today, 1,500 babies will be born too soon, and too small.

I have been a volunteer with the March of Dimes for several years, with my heart involved since, well birth, really. I was born 7 weeks premature, the first of 4 babies to my mother. I think I surprised her… more like shocked her, being the first and all. But in all seriousness, prematurity has become somewhat of a epidemic. There are so many factors that can contribute to premature births, and while some babies grow and thrive and live normal, healthy lives, like I have, others can be severelely sick, have life long difficulties or even die.

With two of my pregnancies, I was put on bedrest, one at 30 weeks and the most recent, well 4 years ago, at 26 weeks. Both for pre-eclampsia or high blood pressure. The last pregnancy caused my liver enzymes to go crazy, which was stressful and scary, but because I had great doctors and they watched me closely, I was able to deliver full term for all my babies. I consider myself truly blessed.

Here is a link to a wonderful story written by a survining twin, born at 29 weeks some 30+ years ago. I hope you will take the time to read.

If you are interested in donating to the March of Dimes, every little bit does help. Visit www.marchforbabies.org

The local March for Babies… Salt Lake County walk will be on May 15, 9 am at This is The Place Heritage Park. Come support a great cause and have a great time. Bring your whole family. Hope to see you there, and Happy Baking!

Cupcakes for a cause

Some of you might know that I am very passionate about the March of Dimes. I was a premature baby some 32+ years ago. I was asked this year to Co-chair the silent auction committee for their “huge” annual Signature Chefs Event on November 14th. I was also asked to head the Christmas area for the auction. I have been asking friends and family for cash donations, as well as Christmas items to use for this great project. Thank you for all you have given so far!

I am also using 101 Gourmet Cupcakes in 10 Minutes to help raise money to help all babies be born healthy and strong. The greatest miracle is having a healthy baby, full term. Cupcakes for a cause will help raise more money for this Christmas spectactular event.

On Saturday, October 17th, there will be a Fall Boutique, where 101 Gourmet Cupcakes will be selling cupcakes. Which ones do you ask? Chocolate Fudge, Best Ever Apple, Key Lime Pie and Root Beer Float. All of the funds raised from selling cupcakes that day will go to the March of Dimes, Signature Chefs Event- Christmas Spectactular!

The Fall Boutique will be held at 2049 West 8300 South in West Jordan, Utah, from 11-2 pm. We hope to see you there… other vendors will be Scentsy, Ebaby Bling, Usborne Books, Mary Kay, Halloween Costumes, and Essential Oils for better health. Hope to see you there! If you would like to pre-order your cupcakes to make sure they won’t be sold before you get there, call 801-565-8535!

Happy Baking!

P.S. What others are baking- Pink Lemonade, Rootbeer Float, Chocolate Caramel Surprise, Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, just to name what I heard today.
